What Does Friendship Mean to You?

So, yes- what does friendship mean to you?

I have a friend (well, I have more than one, but anyway). We've been friends for years. At least 20 odd. Through bad hair and glasses (me) to being Mrs Popular at secondary (her) and all the tween and teen angst in between.

Recently, she posted a status at Facebook, saying she was miffed, lonely, ill again (she is pregnant with number 5, 10 weeks to go, constant Braxton Hicks) and really needed her best friend.

So I messaged her to say "Hi, how you doing".

To be told "you're not my best friend".

I could've cried!

I started to wrack my brains as to what I may or may not have done to upset her.

Was it Pregnancy hormones? Had I missed a message? I had sent her a big basket of pregnancy bubble bath and creams, (I got offered it as a review, and since I am not, and don't plan on, being pregnant, I thought of her), but wondered if she thought it funny because it was a freebie (she's extremely proud).

Then, a second message popped up:

"No, you're like my sister. I love you."

Well, that was it, blubbering wreck of a fool of a woman!

That's the thing about Friendship.

It can make us laugh, cry, or just feel warm.

And if you have a friend, then you should treat them like a rare, priceless Antique the kind of thing that David Dickinson would wet himself over.

Friends are not to be taken lightly. They are not to be taken for granted.

Elder has a record- "you never know what you've got 'til its gone". That's the same with loosing a friend.

I love the saying "you can chose your friends but you can't chose your family", its always applied to me. I have a great circle of friends, both offline and online. And I know that the way I treat these friends reflects on me as a person.

I am fiercely protective of my friends, as I think you should treat people in the way you would want them to treat you. Hurt a friend of mine and I'll immediately jump to protect them. That's just me.

Do you have a friend who you have a great relationship with?

  1. Argh my heart lept into my mouth when I read the 'you're not my best friend' part. Lovely that she came back with the sister line. I have a friend like that. Rarely see her but we're closer to each other than people see each and every day.

  5. Friends are great - two of my oldest friends are always there for me (as I am for them!) and even though I'm crap with birthdays (theirs and kids) we still meet up every now and again and still have good times!!
There are also my uni friends (one who started to blog because of me) and one who I speak to every year - and we know each other inside out.
Then there are my online friends, those I've never met, those who share gossip and those who get flowers- need I say anymore!
